Course Description:

In this course, Megan Lochner, MD, FACOG will increase your awareness of the impact of adverse events on staff; recognize the importance of emotional support from both leadership and peers; review the process of Code Lavender; and consider how you can contribute to a culture of compassion amongst your colleagues. Originally presented as a live webinar on June 9, 2021.

Dr Megan Lochner is a Board-Certified Obstetrician/Gynecologist practicing at Stony Brook Medicine on Long Island in New York. She graduated from Stony Brook School of Medicine and completed her residency at Stony Brook as chief resident, receiving several awards including the Humanism in Medicine Award and the Golden Scalpel Award two years in a row. She has been in private practice for 14 years and is very active in her hospital community serving on several boards. She is the physician leader for the Schwartz Rounds in Maternity and NICU. Dr Lochner spear headed the Code Lavender initiative, bringing this staff support system to her hospital. Most recently, Dr Lochner was invited to join the Mental Health Disaster Team in March of 2020 to provide insight on ways to support staff during the upcoming pandemic. From that meeting, a small subcommittee formed, with Dr Lochner as the only physician member of this new "Staff Support Team." Dr Lochner has spoken both nationally and internationally on the topic of Code Lavender and creating a culture of compassion in medicine.
